The attic of the century

« Jean Blaise and his team opened the Lieu Unique on the 30th of December of 1999, during the "End of century" festival in Nantes. This opening was marked by the Grenier du siècle (The Attic of the century). A translucent double wall was designed to receive an important collection of objects given by the population. Put in cans, these objects are going to stay a whole century in this Attic, until its opening on the 1st of January of 2100 at 5pm. »

In 31st of December 1999 at midnight the attic was locked only to be open on the 1st of January of 2100. Inside are thousands of little and big cans containing 11855 items. This items were collect from anyone who desired and they were only asked to give a reason. A hair removal kit “hoping that in a hundred years women suffer less to be beautiful, a portrait of Hitler “for us not to forget”, nail clippings “to see if they do not grow after dead”, lots of books, a telephone, love letters, personal effects of a dead son, recipes and…

All this objects are marked and each one has a receipt given to the person who donated them, if they’re lucky they can pick them up when it opens, if not they can pass it to their children or whomever.
